Hello everyone! My name is Samiya Omar, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share my background and aspirations as an intern at iDEIntity. In this blog post, I want to delve into the personal significance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and express my excitement about joining iDEIntity, a company that genuinely values these principles. I’ll also outline my goals as an intern and how I plan to contribute to the ongoing DEI efforts within the organization.

Having grown up in a multicultural community and later moved to a more diverse country during my adolescence, I have come to deeply appreciate the importance of embracing differences. I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact of diversity on individuals and communities. These experiences have fueled my passion for advocating for equality and inclusivity in all areas of life.

What Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Mean to Me

Diversity goes beyond simple categorizations like race, gender, or ethnicity. It encompasses a range of circumstances, including age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and socioeconomic background. Embracing diversity means recognizing and appreciating the unique perspectives and experiences that individuals from different backgrounds bring to the table.

Equity means ensuring fairness and justice by addressing different groups’ systemic barriers and disparities. It goes beyond treating everyone equally and acknowledges that individuals and communities have unique needs. Equity involves breaking down the barriers that perpetuate inequality and providing targeted support to those who have historically been marginalized. Equity is about striving for a society where everyone’s potential can be realized, regardless of their background or identity.

It involves creating spaces where people can fully participate, contribute, and grow without fear of discrimination or exclusion. By fostering an inclusive culture, we celebrate diversity as a strength. Inclusion means creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work.

Joining iDEIntity’s Team and Looking Ahead

I am genuinely thrilled to join iDEIntity because the company’s commitment to DEI profoundly resonates with my own values. iDEIntity embraces these principles and implements strategies to create an inclusive workplace culture. This alignment between my and theirs excites me the most about this opportunity.

My primary goal During my internship is to contribute to iDEIntity’s DEI initiatives actively. Internally, I aim to create educational programs and training sessions that raise awareness and foster a deeper understanding of the importance of DEI. Working closely with the DEI team, I aspire to help establish employee resource groups and affinity networks that provide safe spaces for individuals to share their experiences and contribute to a more inclusive workplace.

Externally, I’m eager to collaborate with iDEIntity’s community partners to support initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in broader society. This may involve participating in outreach programs, volunteering, and engaging in advocacy efforts to challenge systemic inequities.

Moreover, as an intern, I aim to amplify underrepresented voices within the company.
